San Diego, 15th MEU Participate in Alligator Dagger 2017

5th FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (Sept. 19, 2017) – The amphibious transport dock ship USS San Diego (LPD 22) with embarked 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) concluded their participation in the scheduled combat rehearsal known as Alligator Dagger Sept. 11, in the vicinity of the Republic of Djibouti.

Steady Progress Marks Success in Iraqis’ Fight Against ISIS, Official Says

WASHINGTON — Progress is steady in the fight to defeat the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, as Iraqi security forces push ahead to eradicate the enemy from Iraq, a spokesman for Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve said.

U.S., Egypt kick off Exercise Bright Star 2017

MOHAMED NAGUIB MILITARY BASE, EGYPT — More than 200 U.S. service members are participating alongside the Egyptian armed forces for the bilateral U.S. Central Command Exercise Bright Star 2017, Sept. 10 – 20, 2017 at Mohamed Naguib Military Base, Egypt.

Alligator Dagger tests warfighting capabilities

DJIBOUTI — In the early morning hours, two miles off the coast of Djibouti, sits an Amphibious Readiness Group/Marine Expeditionary Unit (ARG/MEU) preparing to come ashore in what will prove to be a visually breathtaking experience. As waves of Marines launch from Landing Craft Air Cushion off USS Pearl Harbor (LSD 52) and USS San Diego (LPD 22), steam toward Arta Beach in a calculated formation, they strategically position themselves in preparation for an assault during Alligator Dagger – a two-week exercise that prepares incoming ARG/MEU teams in the region for operations within the U.S. Central Command (USCENTCOM) area of responsibility.

Largest regional amphibious exercise kicks off in Djibouti, Africa

DJIBOUTI — Naval Amphibious Forces, Task Force 51, 5th Marine Expeditionary Brigade (TF 51/5), announced the commencement of a two-week amphibious exercise in international waters off the coast of Djibouti, Africa, Sept. 4, 2017. Exercise Alligator Dagger is the largest regional amphibious exercise to integrate and synchronize TF 51/5’s warfighting capabilities and those of adjacent U.S. Naval Forces Central Command and Special Operations Forces units.
