Freedom of Information Act

Welcome to the United States Central Command (USCENTCOM) Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Requester Service Center. This center was established in accordance with Executive Order 13392. FOIA is a federal law that grants individuals the right to request access to federal agency records, with certain exceptions outlined in nine exemptions or three special law enforcement exclusions.

USCENTCOM provides a wealth of information in our FOIA Library. We’ve developed a powerful search tool to help the public quickly search by title or content. You may find that the information you're looking for is already posted and readily available through our FOIA Library, accessible via the link below.

Please note that each federal agency or component is responsible for handling its own records in response to FOIA requests. There is no central office that processes FOIA requests for all federal departments and agencies. Therefore, we recommend determining whether USCENTCOM is the right agency for the records you need before submitting a request. You can review the types of records USCENTCOM maintains below. Additionally, the USCENTCOM Records Management Program regulation can be found on our homepage under the Visitors and Personnel tab. If you cannot locate the information you seek, please use the “Submit a FOIA Request” link below. Using the web-form provided will help ensure your request is structured for more efficient processing.

If you are requesting personal records pertaining to yourself, you must submit a signed letter. This letter should include your signature and a statement affirming your identity under penalty of perjury, or you may provide a photocopy of a government-issued ID (excluding military IDs). The letter can be mailed or scanned and emailed as an attachment. Contact details for submitting your request are provided below.

USCENTCOM Records:

USCENTCOM retains Joint and Operational records produced by division-level commands in support of its mission to direct and enable military operations focused on enhancing regional security and stability within the USCENTCOM Area of Responsibility (AOR). In addition, USCENTCOM maintains administrative records originating from or approved by its headquarters. Operational records include any documents or information, in any format, created or received during the planning or execution of campaigns and contingency operations within the Command's AOR. Examples of records maintained by USCENTCOM headquarters related to the AOR include Joint Service Awards, USCENTCOM Plans, Significant Activity Reports, Civilian Casualty Reports, and Operational Investigations.
