The guided-missile submarine USS Georgia (SSGN 729), front, transits the Strait of Hormuz with the guided-missile cruiser USS Port Royal (CG 73) and the guided-missile cruiser USS Philippine Sea (CG 58), not pictured, Dec. 21. Georgia is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and Pacific through the Western Indian Ocean and three critical chokepoints to the free flow of global commerce.

USS Georgia Transits Strait of Hormuz

The nuclear-power Ohio-class guided-missile submarine USS Georgia (SSGN 729) along with the guided-missile cruisers USS Port Royal (CG 73) and USS Philippine Sea (CG 58) transited the Strait of Hormuz entering the Arabian Gulf, Dec. 21.

The guided-missile destroyer USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG 81), right, and the Navy patrol coastal ship USS Firebolt (PC 10) transit the Arabian Gulf with Royal Saudi Air Force F-15SA fighter jets, U.S. Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jets, a U.S. Navy MH-60R Sea Hawk helicopter and a U.S. Navy P-8A Poseidon aircraft during a joint and combined air operations in support of maritime surface warfare (AOMSW) exercise in the Arabian Gulf, Dec. 18. Combined integration operations between joint U.S. forces are regularly held to maintain interoperability and the capability to counter threats posed in the maritime domain, ensuring freedom of navigation and free flow of commerce throughout the region's heavily trafficked waterways.

USS Winston S. Churchill Completes International AOMSW Exercise

ARABIAN GULF — The guided-missile destroyer USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG 81) participated in the bilateral joint and combined air operations in support of maritime surface warfare (AOMSW) exercise with Royal Saudi Armed Forces in the Arabian Gulf, Dec. 17-18.

The Royal Saudi Naval Force corvette HMS Badr (612), front to back, the guided-missile destroyer USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG 81), Navy patrol coastal ships USS Squall (PC 7), USS Firebolt (PC 10), Coast Guard patrol boats USCGC Monomoy (WPB 1326), USCGC Maui (WPB 1304) and USCGC Wrangell (WPB 1332) transit the Arabian Gulf with Royal Saudi Air Force F-15SA fighter jets, U.S. Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jets, a U.S. Navy MH-60R Sea Hawk helicopter and a U.S. Navy P-8A Poseidon aircraft during the joint and combined air operations in support of maritime surface warfare (AOMSW) exercise in the Arabian Gulf, Dec. 17. Saudi, U.S. Forces Conduct Joint Aviation Integration Exercise in Arabian Gulf

The Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF), Royal Saudi Naval Force (RSNF), U.S. Naval Forces Central Command (NAVCENT) and U.S. Air Forces Central (AFCENT) conducted a robust combined joint air operations in support of maritime surface warfare (AOMSW) exercise in the Arabian Gulf Dec. 17-18.

The Patriots defending ASAB

ALI AL SALEM AIR BASE, Kuwait — Ali Al Salem Air Base, Kuwait, is home to thousands of U.S. Air Force Airmen, U.S. Army Soldiers and coalition forces. Day and night, defenders from the 386th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron can be seen roaming the base, scanning the perimeter and ensuring that no threat comes close to the base.

UK, U.S. Naval Forces Conduct Mine Countermeasures Exercise

NAVAL SUPPORT ACTIVITY BAHRAIN — Royal Navy and U.S. Navy forces participated in mine countermeasures (MCM) interoperability training in the Arabian Gulf, Dec. 9-12. This is the latest in a series of MCM exercises between regional and coalition partners, meant to enhance mine hunting and communications interoperability. The previous iteration in November involved Saudi, UK and U.S. MCM forces.

Top Army Adjutant General Leaders visit, discuss AG Corps future with U.S. Army Central HR professionals

SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C — The U.S. Army Adjutant General School Commandant and leadership team visited U.S. Army Central headquarters for the first time and participated in an USARCENT HR educational forum, Dec. 3, 2020. Over 100 USARCENT HR Soldiers and Civilians throughout the Middle East and Main Command Post at Shaw AFB tuned in for the virtual learning experience with Col. Marcus Motley, AG School Commandant, Command Sgt. Maj. Robert Atkinson, AG Corps Senior Enlisted Advisor, and Chief Warrant Officer 5 Mark Hickman, AG Corps Chief Warrant Officer.

U.S. Bombers Operate In CENTCOM

SOUTHWEST ASIA — (Dec. 10, 2020) – A pair of U.S. Air Force B-52H "Stratofortresses" assigned to the Barksdale Air Force Base-headquartered 2nd Bomb Wing operated in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility with other U.S. Air Force and regional partner aircraft in the second mission in as many months.

ARABIAN SEA (Dec. 4, 2020) Sailors assigned to the guided-missile destroyer USS Ralph Johnson (DDG 114) pose with seized narcotics following a visit, board, search, and seizure operation in support of Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) Combined Task Force (CTF) 150 in the Arabian Sea, Dec. 4. CMF is a multinational maritime partnership which exists to counter illicit non-state actors on the high seas, promoting security, stability and prosperity in the Arabian Gulf, the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, Indian Ocean and Gulf of Oman. CTF 150 conducts maritime security operations outside the Arabian Gulf to disrupt criminal and terrorist organizations, ensuring legitimate commercial shipping can transit the region free from non-state threats. Maritime Interdiction in North Arabian Sea, December 4th, 2020

The guided-missile destroyer USS Ralph Johnson (DDG 114), deployed to U.S. Fifth Fleet and operating in support of the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF), interdicted a shipment of more than 2,000lbs (900kgs) of suspected narcotics from a stateless dhow in the international waters of the Arabian Sea, Dec. 4.

U.S. Marines exploit captured anti-armor missile system from Syria

AHMAD AL JABER AIR BASE, Kuwait — U.S. Marine Corps Explosive Ordnance Disposal technicians completed a multi-day exploitation of illicit ordnance recently turned over by Syrian Democratic Forces in Syria, here. Specialists with Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force – Crisis Response – Central Command, conducted a detailed examination of four AT-4B Spigot Anti-Tank Guided Missiles, which were recently obtained by partner forces in southern Syria.

ARABIAN GULF (Nov. 11, 2020) Royal Saudi Naval Force mine countermeasures vessel Shaqra (422), left, mine countermeasure ship USS Dextrous (MCM 13), middle, Royal Navy mine countermeasures vessel HMS Brocklesby (M 33) and a MH-53E Sea Dragon helicopter, attached to Helicopter Mine Countermeasures Squadron 15, sail in formation during mine countermeasures interoperability training, led by Commander, Task Force (CTF) 52 in the Arabian Gulf, Nov. 11. CTF 52 provides command and control of all mine warfare assets in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations. The 5th Fleet area of operations encompasses about 2.5 million square miles of water area and includes the Arabian Gulf, Arabian Sea, Gulf of Oman, Red Sea and parts of the Indian Ocean. The expanse is comprised of 20 countries and includes three critical choke points at the Strait of Hormuz, the Suez Canal and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait at the southern tip of Yemen.
