U.S. Airstrike in Syria Kills Senior al-Qaida Leader

WASHINGTON — Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook confirmed that U.S. forces conducted a precision airstrike near Sarmada in northwest Syria Nov. 18 that killed Abu Ayyub al-Masri, a senior al-Qaida leader in Syria.

Safeguarding the Airfield: CRG Defenders provide air base defense in northern Iraq

QAYYARAH, IRAQ — Giulio Douhet's military concept states, "the only effective way to counter air power is to destroy its bases on the ground." As such, air base defense serves as the core of Air Force security forces' doctrine. It's the foundation from which the career field planted its roots.

DLA delivers Thanksgiving meals to troops overseas

PHILADELPHIA — American troops serving around the world will be able to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal, thanks to the Defense Logistics Agency. More than 14,968 pounds of turkey and 8,712 pies, including sweet potato and pumpkin, have been delivered to troops in Afghanistan.

International forum participants discuss way forward

Special Marine Ground Task Force, U.S. Army advise Iraqi security forces in push towards Mosul

QAYYARAH WEST, IRAQ — The United States Marine Corps and the U.S. Army are partnering to enhance the readiness of Iraqi security forces as they move towards the critical city of Mosul.

CENTCOM civilian organizes fishing tournament to benefit wounded warriors

Tampa — More than 20 warriors and accompanied guests participated in the 3rd Operation Bass Warrior fishing tournament November 6, in Clewiston, Florida. U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) communications branch (J6) chief, Thomas Loftis, a former Clewiston resident and retired Marine, organized the event with a network of friends and family as a way of giving back to those who served and sacrificed.

ARABIAN GULF (Nov. 18, 2016) - Sailors assigned to the guided-missile destroyer USS Nitze (DDG 94) render assistance to a distressed Iranian vessel. Nitze, deployed as part of the Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group, is supporting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations.

USS Nitze Assists Stranded Iranian Mariners

Arabian Gulf – The guided missile destroyer USS Nitze (DDG 94), currently deployed to the Arabian Gulf in support of maritime security operations, assisted three Iranian mariners in distress, Nov. 18.

OIR Spokesman: Top ISIL Operative Killed in Coalition Airstrike in Syria

WASHINGTON — Air Force Col. John Dorrian, spokesman for Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve, told reporters that a U.S.-led coalition airstrike in Raqqa, Syria, killed a senior leader of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

CRG enables strategic air operations at Qayyarah West

The wheels of a C-130 Hercules touched down at Qayyarah West Airfield Nov. 11. The tactical airlift workhorse, loaded with supplies and equipment to resupply the Mosul offensive, belonged to the Iraqi air force. The landing was much more than routine. It was symbolic. It represented the first time a fixed wing Iraqi aircraft loaded with cargo landed at the strategic airfield since it fell to Da'esh fighters in 2014.

Gains Made for Mosul, Tough Fighting Remains, DoD Spokesman Says

WASHINGTON — The effort to liberate Mosul from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant is a tough fight that is only going to get tougher, Navy Capt. Jeff Davis said as Iraqi forces and Kurdish peshmerga are making gains in the approach to Mosul.
