Iraqi, Kurdish Forces Approaching Outskirts of Mosul

WASHINGTON — Pentagon Press Operations director Navy Capt. Jeff Davis told reporters Iraqi and Kurdish forces are about 5 miles from Mosul’s outskirts and are clearing towns and villages to the north, east and south of Iraq’s second-largest city.

OIR Commander Cites Momentum in Mosul Push; Raqqa Isolation to Begin 'Soon'

WASHINGTON — Army Lt. Gen. Stephen Townsend, commander of Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve, told Pentagon reporters that Iraqi forces continue to make steady progress in the effort to retake Mosul from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

Carter Meets With Iraqi Prime Minister, Addresses Troops in Baghdad

WASHINGTON — Defense Secretary Ash Carter met with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi in Baghdad and spoke with troops there about the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant and the ongoing military campaign to retake the city of Mosul.

Iraqi Troops Advance Toward Mosul as ISIL Tries to Hide Movements

WASHINGTON — Iraqi and Kurdish peshmerga security forces are working together as they advance along several axes to liberate Mosul, Iraq, from Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant control, Navy Capt. Jeff Davis, director of Pentagon press operations said.

Iraqi Forces Begin Battle for Mosul

WASHINGTON — Iraqi Forces have begun their counter-attack to liberate Mosul from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, according to a statement released by Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve officials.

Coalition Shapes Mosul Fight by Removing ISIL Leaders From Battlefield

WASHINGTON — Air Force Col. John Dorrian told reporters that the coalition supporting the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant is helping to shape the Iraqi forces’ upcoming battle for Mosul, Iraq, by targeting ISIL leaders.

Carter: 600 Troops to Deploy to Enable Iraqis to Retake Mosul From ISIL

WASHINGTON — While traveling in New Mexico, Defense Secretary Ash Carter said about 600 U.S. troops will be deployed to Iraq to further enable local forces in the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

WASHINGTON — With significant progress in the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, the enemy will try to challenge the U.S.-led coalition in Mosul, Iraq, and Raqqa, Syria, the commander of Operation Inherent Resolve’s combined force air component said.

Pentagon Confirms U.S. Strike in Syria Killed ISIL Leader

WASHINGTON — Defense Department officials have confirmed that a U.S. precision airstrike Aug. 30 targeting senior Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant leader Abu Muhammad al-Adnani was successful.

Shaping Operations Continue in Iraq, Syria as ISIL Leaders Targeted
