Stopping Flow of Foreign Fighters to ISIS ‘Will Take Years,’ Official Says

WASHINGTON — Intelligence sharing and strategic patience are key to countering the flow of foreign terrorist fighters supporting the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, the director of the National Counterterrorism Center’s Directorate for Strategic Operational Planning said.

Dunford: Iraqis, Coalition Have Adapted, Continue Attacking ISIS

ABOARD A MILITARY AIRCRAFT — Iraqi and coalition forces will learn from the civilian casualty incident of March 17 and continue to support Iraqi forces taking the fight to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria in Mosul, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said.

ISIS Hostage-Taking Caught on Video; Mosul Deaths Go To Formal Investigation

WASHINGTON — An Inherent Resolve spokesman said a formal investigation has begun into the March 17 deaths of civilians in western Mosul, Iraq, and will allow task force members to analyze other aspects of the case that have significant bearing, such as strike procedures and the impact of ISIS tactics.

CENTCOM Commander Briefs Congress on Regional Threats

WASHINGTON — Army Gen. Joseph Votel, the commander of U.S. Central Command, looked beyond the current conflicts in the greater Middle East and told the House Armed Services Committee that Iran is the greatest danger to peace in the region.

Local Forces Launch Daring Assault Behind Enemy Lines in Syria

WASHINGTON — Local forces in Syria launched a multi-pronged offensive that included a daring air assault behind enemy lines to liberate Tabqa Dam, located 25 miles upstream from the city of Raqqa, an Operation Inherent Resolve spokesman said.

OIR Spokesman: Iraqi Forces Remain Resolute in Counter-ISIS Fight

WASHINGTON — Air Force Col. John Dorrian, Inherent Resolve spokesman, said the Iraqis are holding firm in the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, despite the enemy firing indiscriminately into civilian areas and using civilians as human shields.

Iraqis Fight for Western Mosul in Tough Battle Against ISIS

WASHINGTON — A Pentagon spokesman said Iraqi security forces are battling Islamic State of Iraq and Syria fighters in western Mosul’s government center complex to liberate the country’s second-largest city from ISIS control.

Dunford: Americans Should Be Proud of Role U.S. Troops Play in Iraq, Syria

WASHINGTON — Indigenous Iraqi and Syrian forces have made tremendous progress taking the fight to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, and Americans should be proud of the role played in the effort by a small number of U.S. troops, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said.

ISIS on Trajectory Toward Lasting Defeat, Defense Official Says

WASHINGTON — A defense official said despite a long road ahead for the U.S.-led coalition in its fight to counter the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, the enemy is being degraded by every measure and is on a trajectory to lasting defeat.

Iraqi Forces Retake Mosul Airport, Inherent Resolve Commander Says

WASHINGTON — Iraqi security forces have taken back Mosul International Airport in Iraq to liberate western Mosul from control of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, said Army Lt. Gen. Stephen J. Townsend, Operation Inherent Resolve commander.
