U.S. Army Central hosts inaugural virtual intelligence conference

SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- U.S. Army Central headquarters hosted its inaugural Virtual Land Forces Intelligence Conference, Tuesday, Oct. 27.

NAVAL SUPPORT ACTIVITY BAHRAIN (Oct. 28, 2020) Vice Adm. Samuel Paparo, commander of U.S. Naval Forces Central Command (NAVCENT), U.S. 5th Fleet and Combined Maritime Forces, walks with Secretary of Defense Dr. Mark T. NAVCENT is the U.S. Navy element of U.S. Central Command in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations and encompasses about 2.5 million square miles of water area and includes the Arabian Gulf, Gulf of Oman, Red Sea and parts of the Indian Ocean. The expanse is comprised of 20 countries and includes three critical choke points at the Strait of Hormuz, the Suez Canal and the Strait of Bab al Mandeb at the southern tip of Yemen. Secretary of Defense visits NSA Bahrain

BAHRAIN — During his first visit to Bahrain as Secretary of Defense, Dr. Mark T. Esper toured facilities and met with personnel on board U.S. Naval Support Activity Bahrain, Oct. 28. Esper met with Vice Adm. Samuel Paparo, commander of U.S. Naval Forces Central Command, U.S. 5th Fleet and Combined Maritime Forces, to discuss ongoing operations and partnerships in the region. He then visited the headquarter’s maritime operations center (MOC), where watchstanders provide command and control for missions throughout the 5th Fleet area of operations (AOO).

Task Force Spartan Soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 14th Field Artillery Regiment, 75th Field Artillery Brigade, showcased their ability to rapidly deploy High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) launchers anywhere in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility within hours during AMDEX 21-1. Air and Missile Defense Exercise 21-1, which started Oct. 12, develops and exercises tactics, techniques, and procedures against simulated air, cyber, force protection and missile threats.

TF Spartan Soldiers Exercise Critical Air and Missile Defense Capabilities

KUWAIT — Field Artillery Soldiers of Task Force Spartan conducted High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) training as part of the Air and Missile Defense Exercise 21-1 here in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility, Oct. 21-22, 2020.

3rd Medical Command and the Jordanian Royal Medical Services exchange lessons on COVID-19

AMMAN, JORDAN — U.S. Army Soldiers from the 3rd Medical Command (Deployment Support) conducted a subject matter expert exchange with the Jordanian Royal Medical Services at the Queen Rania Al Abdullah Hospital For Children earlier this month. The four-day event facilitated discussions on interoperabilities, with special focus on COVID-19 response and requirements.

USS Gladiator (MCM 11) steams off the coast of Bahrain. Gladiator is currently participating in mine countermeasure exercises with the Bonhomme Richard Expeditionary Strike Group (BHRESG). BHRESG is conducting maritime security operations (MSO) in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility. MSO help set the conditions for security and stability in the maritime environment and complement the counter-terrorism and security efforts in regional nations� littoral waters. Coalition forces also conduct MSO under international maritime conventions to ensure security and safety in international waters so that commercial shipping and fishing can occur safely in the region. USS Gladiator Completes Surface Warfare Advanced Tactical Training

MANAMA, BAHRAIN — Bahrain based mine countermeasures ship USS Gladiator (MCM 11) assigned to U.S. 5th Fleet, Task Force (CTF) 52, recently completed a multi-day Mine Countermeasure (MCM) Surface Warfare Advanced Tactical Training (SWATT) exercise with embarked mine warfare trainers on Oct. 9. SWATT is the surface forces premiere advanced tactical training exercise designed to increase combat capability, lethality and interoperability of the surface force across all domains.

The Evolution of Installation Distributed C2

AL UDEID AIR BASE, Qatar — Airmen from the 379th Expeditionary Communications Squadron at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar, are reimagining how communication squadrons conduct operations. As U.S. Air Force Central’s largest communication squadron, the 379th ECS, known as the “Magic Makers,” have expanded capabilities for warfighting execution. The unit has transformed and converted strategy into action, enabling the installation commander to rapidly fight and recover the base in contingency operations.

JSSD-K range day builds relationships, promotes readiness

UDAIRI RANGE, KUWAIT — Members assigned to the Joint Special Operation Forces Support Detachment-Kuwait hosted a range day for mission-essential partners at the Udairi Range Complex, Kuwait, Oct. 12, 2020.

While under Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) tasking, a boarding team from USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG 81) provides food and water to an Iranian-flagged dhow in distress in the Arabian Sea, Oct. 15. The boarding team transited to the distressed vessel via a rigid-hull inflatable boat (RHIB) and conducted an initial seaworthiness inspection and to assist the mariners with provisions. Churchill remained on scene until Omani authorities could arrive and render further assistance to get the vessel underway. USS Winston Churchill renders aid to Iranian mariners in distress while operating under Combined Maritime Forces (CMF)

ARABIAN SEA — While operating under Combined Maritime Forces (CMF), the guided-missile destroyer USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG 81) provided assistance to a motor vessel in distress in the Arabian Sea, Oct. 15.

Soldier's civilian experience helps save K9

U.S. Army Sgt. Carlos Patino has been a civilian nurse for eight years and a flight nurse for three years, but this was the first time he ever treated a dog for cardiac arrest.“I am going to be completely honest and tell you that the training for medics to treat military working dogs has been very minimal,” said Patino. “There was no training that would have prepared us for this situation.”

U.S. joint forces train with regional partners to build cohesion, strengthen defense

SOUTHWEST ASIA — In today’s dynamic environment, U.S. Air Forces Central routinely works together with regional partners and joint forces to strengthen and reinforce the coalition's collective ability to defend the region. Last month, USAFCENT Airmen joined their U.S. Naval Forces Central Command and U.S. Army Central brethren to train with regional partners on aerial integration and defensive counter air measures.
