Defenders deescalate situation downrange, prevent potential catastrophe

KANDAHAR AIRFIELD, AFGHANISTAN — A lot of people have seen the exciting world of combat arms training or the cute, but capable, military working dogs, but most are not familiar with the rough—and sometimes intense—duties of Air Force Defenders in Afghanistan.

More than 100 Fort Belvoir-based 29ID Soldiers return from federal duty in Jordan

FORT BELVOIR, VA, UNITED STATES — More than 100 Maryland and Virginia National Guard Soldiers from the Fort Belvoir-based 29th Infantry Division returned stateside July 9, 2017, after serving on federal active duty in Jordan since September 2016. The Soldiers arrived at their demobilization station in Texas where they will spend approximately seven to 10 days for reintegration training, medical evaluation and administrative tasks to transition from federal active duty to traditional National Guard status.

Collaboration Fuels Fight Against ISIS, Official Says

WASHINGTON — Close collaboration among coalition forces, the Iraqi government and international partners have helped to transform Iraqi security forces and partner forces in Syria in the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, Operation Inherent Resolve's director of partner force development told reporters.

OIR Spokesman: ISIS Cannot Stop Coalition’s Progress

WASHINGTON — The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria is on the run in Syria and Iraq and the terrorist group can’t stop the progress that coalition-partnered Iraqi and Syrian forces have made over the past two years, an Operation Inherent Resolve spokesman said.

Sortie streak launches 23rd BS into the next 100 years

UNDISCLOSED LOCATION, Southwest Asia — Carrying out vital missions for over 100 years, the 23rd Bomb Squadron and the associated aircraft maintenance units continue to play a critical role in delivering combat airpower.

In the last 24 hours Afghan Special Security Forces killed twelve Daesh fighters in Nangarhar, and a Taliban commander in Shahid-E Hasa, Uruzgan. In addition, they also arrested one Haqqani insurgent in Paghman, Kabul. ASSF continues to disrupt and degrade insurgent operations, diminishing their freedom-of-movement and improving security for the citizens of Afghanistan.

Resounding Afghan Pride in Nangarhar

KABUL, Afghanistan — Afghans united in Nangarhar last week when 700 citizens attempted to join the Afghan Local Police in a move of solidarity against Daesh.

Tunnel detectors ferret out enemy below ground

WASHINGTON (Army News Service) — WASHINGTON (Army News Service) -- Enemy combatants lurking in tunnels have attacked U.S. troops throughout U.S. history, including during both world wars, Vietnam and more recently Iraq and Afghanistan. Detecting these secretive tunnels has been a challenge that has been answered by the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center's engineers at the Geotechnical and Structural Laboratory in Vicksburg, Mississippi.
