USARCENT strengthens ties through land forces symposium

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — U.S. Army Central’s senior leadership assembled for a four-day conference with six partner nations from Central and South Asia for the USARCENT Land Forces Symposium here June 19-22.

ISIS Holdouts Cut Off in Western Mosul, OIR Spokesman Says

WASHINGTON — Iraqi forces have made significant progress in the past two days in its fight to liberate western Mosul, Iraq, from Islamic State of Iraq and Syria control, said a spokesman for Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve.

KABUL, Afghanistan (June 22, 2017) — Gen. John Nicholson, Resolute Support commander, visits Train, Advise, Assist Command – Air to assess the impact and progress of the AAF in the war against terrorism. Minister of Defense Maj. Gen. Tariq Shah Bahrami and the Minister of Interior Taj Muhammad Jahid were also present during the briefing and tour of the AAF aircrafts. The Afghan Airforce is set to expand, helping to provide the foundation and an enduring mechanism for superior power projection for the Afghan government. Their airpower includes the Mi-17 (for air transport of troops and cargo, medical evacuations, and attack), the A-29 (a strike aircraft), the MD-530 (a small attack helicopter), the C-130 (airlift), and the C-208 (airlift with airdrop capability), explained German Lt. Col. Nikolaus Nanasi, MoD Air Advisor. The AAF is projected to expand and will include new capabilities such as the AC-208, an aircraft which, for the first time, will provide the AAF an organic intelligence surveillance reconnaissance asset. Also, they will be empowered with 159 new UH-60 Blackhawks and additional A-29s and MD-530s.

CMC visits Marines and Sailors in Bahrain

MANAMA, BAHRAIN — Neller is accustomed to speaking to a sea of Marines wearing digital tan utility uniforms, but at TF 51/5, that sea is also combined with Naval expeditionary green utilities worn by the Sailors, who are fully integrated with the Marines at TF 51/5.

US, Uzbek soldiers build new lines of communication

CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait — U.S. Army Central Soldiers conducted a tactical communications military-to-military engagement with the Uzbekistan Armed Forces June 13-16, 2017, at the Tashkent Institute of Information Technologies in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

KABUL, Afghanistan — General John W. Nicholson, Resolute Support Mission commander, visited the Afghan National Army’s New Commando School June 19 with a message of solidarity and brotherhood.

U.S. Marines with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit fire an M777 Howitzer during a fire mission in northern Syria as part of Operation Inherent Resolve, Mar. 24, 2017. The unit provided 24/7 support in all weather conditions to allow for troop movements, to include terrain denial and the subduing of enemy forces. More than 60 regional and international nations have joined together to enable partnered forces to defeat ISIS and restore stability and security. CJTF-OIR is the global Coalition to defeat ISIS in Iraq and Syria.

DoD Official: Sole Focus in Iraq, Syria Remains on ISIS

WASHINGTON — A Pentagon spokesman briefed reporters on recent defensive shoot-downs of two unmanned aerial vehicles and a Syrian SU-22 fighter-bomber, and said coalition forces' sole focus in Iraq and Syria remains on defeating the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.
