Truxtun Aids Pakistani Navy Sailor

USS TRUXTUN, at sea -- The guided-missile destroyer USS Truxtun (DDG 103) assisted in the medical evacuation of a Pakistani navy Sailor, March 6.

Soldiers help nurture horses to health

KUWAIT CITY, Kuwait — Throughout man’s history of wars, conquests, travels and adventures, horses have been along each step of the way. To some, they are the symbols of emotional growth and healing; to others, they are equal partners in sports and recreations.

ISIS on Trajectory Toward Lasting Defeat, Defense Official Says

WASHINGTON — A defense official said despite a long road ahead for the U.S.-led coalition in its fight to counter the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, the enemy is being degraded by every measure and is on a trajectory to lasting defeat.

Lt. Col. Jose Lasso, Train, Advise, Assist Command-Air (TAAC-Air) deputy director of logistics, was welcomed by Afghan Air Force Brig. Gen. TAAC-Air Shindand visit leads to Afghan Air Force cost savings

KABUL, Afghanistan (AFNS) — Advisors with Train, Advise, Assist Command-Air traveled to Shindand Air Wing, Herat, Afghanistan, to meet with Afghan Air Force wing leaders on March 1, 2017.

Task Force Southwest completes full mission rehearsal prior to Afghanistan deployment

CAMP LEJEUNE, NC, UNITED STATES — Task Force Southwest completed a full mission rehearsal in preparation for an upcoming deployment to Helmand Province, Afghanistan, at Camp Lejeune, N.C., Feb. 27 to March 3.

Dunford Discusses Syria With Turkish, Russian Counterparts

ANTALYA, Turkey — The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is meeting in Antalya, Turkey, with his Russian and Turkish counterparts to discuss the situation in northern Syria. Joint Staff officials say they are looking to enhance communications and deconflict military operations.

U.S. Conducts Second Day of Strikes Against Terrorists in Yemen

WASHINGTON — The United States has carried out more than 30 strikes in Yemen since March 2 against the terrorist group al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, Pentagon spokesman Navy Capt. Jeff Davis said.

Chief shares wisdom from 36-year career

SOUTHWEST ASIA -- There’s an old joke that points out the difference between knowledge and wisdom. Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit; wisdom is not putting it into a fruit salad. The same can be true regarding deployments. Knowledge may come after a few years on the job, but wisdom comes after a career full of deployments.

Iraqi forces benefit from Coalition led counter-IED training

Black Tiger Training Camp, Iraq — The Combined Joint Forces Land Component Command -- Operation Inherent Resolve Counter Improvised Explosive Device team works together facilitating their critical part in the fight against ISIS. The counter-IED team's mission is three fold: train the force, defeat the device and attack the network.
