Largest regional amphibious exercise kicks off in Djibouti, Africa

Naval Amphibious Forces, Task Force 51, 5th Marine Expeditionary Brigade (TF 51/5), announced the commencement of a two-week amphibious exercise in international waters off the coast of Djibouti, Africa, Sept. 4, 2017. Exercise Alligator Dagger is the largest regional amphibious exercise to integrate and synchronize TF 51/5’s warfighting capabilities and those of adjacent U.S. Naval Forces Central Command and Special Operations Forces units.

"TAMPA, Fla. - U.S. military forces will join Egyptian Armed Forces members for Exercise Bright Star 2017 at Mohamed Naguib Military Base, Egypt, 10-20 September 2017. Bright Star builds on the strategic security relationship between Egypt and the United States, a historic partnership which plays a leading role in counterterrorism, regional security, and efforts to combat the spread of violent extremism. The first Bright Star exercise took place in 1981. Approximately 200 U.S. military service members will participate in a Bright Star exercise for the first time since 2009, focusing this year on regional security and cooperation, and promoting interoperability in conventional and irregular warfare scenarios."
