FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TAMPA, Fla. – From July 18 to 21, 2024, Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla, Commander, U.S. Central Command (USCENTCOM) hosted the CENTCOM Component Commanders Conference at al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. With command representation from all CENTCOM components and subordinate commands, the leaders gathered to discuss the current state of security in the CENTCOM area of operations and discussed ways to strengthen the security cooperation and other actions required to address the current challenges.
From July 21 to 22, Gen. Kurilla concluded his multi-day trip to the region by visiting Manama, Bahrain where he met with His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and National Security Advisor, His Royal Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa. The leaders discussed the regional security situation and the strong mil-to-mil relationship between Bahrain and the U.S., dating back to WWII and formalized in 1971 and further strengthened last fall with the signing of the Comprehensive Security Integration and Prosperity Agreement.
“It is particularly important for me to travel to the CENTCOM region during these times of increased regional tension,” said Gen. Kurilla. “I gain a much deeper understanding of the situation and the way forward by meeting with our military-to-military partners and listening. Our military-to-military relationships are more important now than ever. CENTCOM must rely on our partners in the region to solve the region’s complex challenges.”
The trip to the USCENTCOM region began on July 11 and included stops in Jordan, Syria, Israel, Egypt, Qatar, and Bahrain.
