The mailroom delivers smiles

TAJI, IRAQ — While Soldiers no longer have to wait weeks to get a message from loved ones back home in the form of a mailed letter thanks to email and social media, technology still cannot replace the joy Soldiers get when they receive a care package from someone back home.

BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan (Mar. 17, 2017) - Water plumes greet and honor the final flight of Chief Warrant Officer 4 Joshua Wade Martin as he taxis his C-26 Metroliner to the ramp. Martin is a 28-year Arkansas Army National Guard veteran who will redeploy soon and retire from military service this summer. 28 Years…and One Final Flight

BAGRAM AIRFIELD, AFGHANISTAN — U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer 4 Joshua Wade Martin flew his final flight here, Mar. 17, as a member of the Distinguished Visitor Operations Detachment (DV Ops) of Task Force Thor/206th Military Intelligence Battalion.

Davis, a family nurse practitioner in the U.S. Army Nurse Corp, spoke about the tri-Service, enlisted medical training campus for Army, Navy, and Air Force students and answered questions. USCENTCOM Central Asian Partners Collaborate on Medical Issues

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Representatives from several countries within the U.S. Central Command area of operation attended a CENTCOM theater medical conference March 6-8, 2017 at the Medical Education and Training Campus (METC).

Additional A-29s arrive at Kabul in time for fighting season

KABUL, Afghanistan — Four A-29 Super Tucano light-attack aircraft arrived for duty at Kabul Air Wing, Kabul, Afghanistan, March 20, 2017, where they will be used by the Afghan Air Force for close-air attack, air interdiction, escort and armed reconnaissance.

Coalition fire departments develop “brotherhood” while supporting OIR

SOUTHWEST ASIA — U.S. Air Force and Royal Australian Air Force fire fighters, from different installations in the same area of responsibility, have successfully created an exchange training program while in support of Operation Inherent Resolve here.

Makin Island Earns Battle E Award

ARABIAN GULF — The deployed amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) received the 2016 Battle Effectiveness (Battle “E”) Award, March 14, marking the second time the ship has received the honor.

OIR Spokesman: Iraqi Forces Remain Resolute in Counter-ISIS Fight

WASHINGTON — Air Force Col. John Dorrian, Inherent Resolve spokesman, said the Iraqis are holding firm in the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, despite the enemy firing indiscriminately into civilian areas and using civilians as human shields.

5th Bomb Wing Members Deploy in support of Operation Inherent Resolve

MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, ND, UNITED STATES — More than 400 Airmen from the 5th Bomb Wing recently deployed to the Middle East, in support of U.S. Central Command’s Operation Inherent Resolve. The 23rd Bomb Squadron sent a number of B-52H Stratofortresses to take over day-to-day operations, which will be the first time in 12 years aircraft from the base have deployed in support of combat operations.

U.S. Nave Lt. Cmdr. Erin M. Baxter-Haynes, a Judge Advocate from Naval Special Warfare Command, assigned as the Legal Special Projects Officer for a special operations command under Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve, conducts a special Law of Armed Conflict (LOAC) and rules of engagement (ROE) training for the first graduating company of a unique, multi-tribe Iraqi force, the A'ali Al Furat Brigade, at a training ground in Western Iraq, Jan 4, 2017. The A'ali Al Furat Brigade, which has nearly 200 fighters from more than 20 tribes - the first multi-tribe unit formed in Iraq, is the first recorded tribal unit to receive LOAC and ROE training specifically from a U.S. military Judge Advocate General through coordination with Coalition partners. CJTF-OIR is the global Coalition to defeat ISIS in Iraq and Syria.

Humanitarian law in the fight against ISIS

BAGHDAD — As Iraqi security forces continue the fight to secure West Mosul, Iraq’s tribes, families, and other local residents are filling the security gap by banding together to protect their homes from ISIS.
