Iraqi Offensive to Liberate Mosul Entering Critical Phase

IRBIL, Iraq — The Iraqi offensive to retake Mosul from Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant terrorists is on or ahead of schedule, but the fight will take months, Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve officials said while accompanying the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff during his trip to the region.

Pentagon Spokesman: Iraqi Troops Force Defensive Choices for ISIL

WASHINGTON — Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook said Iraqi security forces continue to apply pressure on multiple fronts in the operation to retake the country’s second-largest city of Mosul from Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant terrorists.

Dunford Wraps Up Saudi Visit

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff concluded two days of discussions with Saudi leaders in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Critical support and sustainment operations in northern Iraq aid Coalition effort

ERBIL, IRAQ — U.S. Army sustainment Soldiers are playing a critical role in operations at Qayyarah West Airfield. Personnel from the 526th Brigade Support Battalion, Task Force Strike, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), and the 336th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion are organizing convoys, loading equipment, and coordinating with contractors to ensure the flow of supplies reaches units supporting the operation.

Isolation, Liberation of Raqqa Key in Defeating ISIL, Pentagon Spokesman Says

WASHINGTON — Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook said the isolation and liberation of the Syrian city of Raqqa from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant are key in efforts to ultimately defeat the terrorists.

Dunford Arrives in Riyadh for Talks With Saudi Leaders

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — Marine Corps Gen. Joe Dunford is scheduled to meet with Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud and Crown Prince Muhammad bin Nayef for national security meetings.

Air Defense Artillery Transfer of Authority Ceremony

BAGRAM AIRFIELD, AFGHANISTAN — The U.S. Army 2nd Battalion, 44th Air Defense Artillery (ADA) Regiment relinquished authority for the Counter Rocket, Artillery and Mortar (C-RAM) mission in Afghanistan to the 5th Battalion (BN), 5th ADA Regiment during a ceremony held here on Wednesday. U.S. Army Maj. Gen. John C. Thomson III, Bagram Airfield commander, presided over the transfer of mission.

'Steady Progress' As Some Iraqi Forces Reach Mosul, OIR Official Says
