U.S. 5th Fleet: Ready to Support and Respond

USS Monterey (CG 61), USS Laboon (DDG 58) and USS Higgins (DDG 76) played a critical role from the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in the April 13 Tomahawk land attack missiles (TLAM) strikes into Syria. The three ships launched a total of 60 TLAMs to significantly impact the Syrian regime's ability to develop, deploy and use chemical weapons in the future.

Coalition, Partner Forces Look to Deal Final Blow to ISIS in Syria

WASHINGTON — Following an increase in coalition strikes against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, the Syrian Democratic Forces resumed offensive operations to clear the final ISIS-held territory in eastern Syria, a deputy commander of Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve said.

U.S. 5th Fleet Holds Change of Command Ceremony

MANAMA, Bahrain -- Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command (NAVCENT)/ U.S. 5th Fleet (C5F)/Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) held a change of command ceremony at Naval Support Activity Bahrain, May 6. Vice Adm. Scott A. Stearney relieved Vice Adm. John C. Aquilino, who served as commander of NAVCENT/C5F/CMF since September 2017.

Syrian Democratic Forces Continue Defeat-ISIS Fight, Official Says

WASHINGTON — Syrian Democratic Forces are continuing the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria in the middle Euphrates River valley and will not cede any territory already taken from the terror group, a Pentagon spokesman said.

NYPD Shares Best Practices in the Fight Against Terrorism

(KABUL, Afghanistan) -- A New York City Police Department (NYPD) delegation, led by NYPD Police Commissioner James O’Neil, visited the General Command Police Special Unit (GCPSU) in Kabul, Afghanistan, Apr. 11. They received a brief on the terrorism threat in the region, as well as the successes GCPSU’s National Mission Units (NMU) are having in preventing, combating and responding to high profile attacks. Discussions during the visit included counter corruption efforts in Afghanistan and the practical use of police tactics and techniques to reduce the threat of terrorism.
