DoD Identifies Fallen U.S. Service Member in Syria

WASHINGTON — The Defense Department has identified Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer Scott C. Dayton, 42, of Woodbridge, Virginia, as the American service member who was killed in Syria on Thanksgiving Day.

Pararescuemen hone edge with realistic training

Master Sgt. Sean Kirsch has deployed to the Afghan theater, among other locations, numerous times during his 13-year career. Kirsch is a pararescueman with the 83rd Expeditionary Rescue Squadron based at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan. During those earlier deployments, Kirsch recalls responding to multiple combat rescue missions each day and has seen more than a dozen real-world mass casualty scenarios.

Carter Offers Condolences for Fallen U.S. Service Member in Syria

WASHINGTON — Defense Secretary Ash Carter today offered his condolences to the family, friends and other loved ones of a U.S. service member who was killed on Thanksgiving in Syria.

U.S. Service Members Mark Thanksgiving Serving on Global Missions

WASHINGTON — While the vast majority of Americans prepare to sit down with family for a fall feast, hundreds of thousands of U.S. service members will be on guard around the world, ensuring their fellow citizens enjoy a day of peace.

U.S. Airstrike in Syria Kills Senior al-Qaida Leader

WASHINGTON — Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook confirmed that U.S. forces conducted a precision airstrike near Sarmada in northwest Syria Nov. 18 that killed Abu Ayyub al-Masri, a senior al-Qaida leader in Syria.

DLA delivers Thanksgiving meals to troops overseas

PHILADELPHIA — American troops serving around the world will be able to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal, thanks to the Defense Logistics Agency. More than 14,968 pounds of turkey and 8,712 pies, including sweet potato and pumpkin, have been delivered to troops in Afghanistan.
