READOUT – Gen. Kurilla’s Visit to Egypt, May 10, 2022

U.S. Central Command Commander Gen. Erik Kurilla met Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Saeed Hussein Khalil el-Sisi, Minister of Defense Gen. Mohamed Zaki and Lt. Gen. Osama Askar, chief of staff of the armed forces, May 9, while visiting the CENTCOM area of responsibility.

The leaders discussed several regional security issues and reiterated their commitment to the U.S. – Egypt strategic partnership. Both parties pledged to advance efforts to combat terrorism in the region, maintain maritime campaigns and bolster border security operations.

“I walked away with a new appreciation for Egypt’s prominent role in the Middle East,” Kurilla said. “This strategic partnership is important to me, the United States, and CENTCOM.”
