TAMPA , Fla. (September 23, 2011) — Gen. James Mattis, commander of US Central Command, visited the United Arab Emirates to gain the perspective of LTG Hamad Muhammad Thani Al-Rumaythi, the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, on regional security issues yesterday.
Mattis said he appreciated the country’s support of the international effort in Libya and thanked him for the U.A.E.’s leadership.
Mattis also met with Michael Corbin, the U.S. Ambassador to U.A.E., and his staff. “U.A.E. remains a leading light in the region and I value the insight I gain every time I visit,” said Mattis.
The visit to U.A.E. is part of a multi-country visit Mattis is making to the region to increase his understanding of issues.
