CENTCOM Chief of Staff issues message on increased Force Protection Condition

By Chief of Staff, U.S. Central Command

CENTCOM Teammates and Family Members,

As you may have seen reported in the news, the Defense Department increased its Force Protection Condition yesterday from Alpha to Bravo, which applies when an increased or more predictable threat of terrorist activity exists. The decision to increase our force protection condition was made by the U.S. Northern Command Commander as a prudent measure to remind installation commanders at all levels of the need for increased vigilance and the safeguarding of all DoD personnel, installations and facilities throughout the Continental United States.

While we have no information to indicate a specific threat against CENTCOM personnel, as always it is important to stay vigilant and remain aware of your surroundings. When you travel to and from MacDill AFB, you may encounter delays when entering the installation, experience road detours or curtailed services, so give yourself extra time and be sure to exercise patience. Finally, if you see any suspicious activity, we encourage you to document it and report it to the Eagle Eyes Program at MacDill AFB's Defense Operations Center at 813-828-3322 or by contacting local law enforcement authorities.

I want to thank all of you for the incredible support you provide to CENTCOM each day and the sacrifices you continue to make to ensure we successfully accomplish our important mission.

MICHAEL X. GARRETT
Major General, U.S. Army
Chief of Staff
