USCENTCOM and Tajikistan discuss security cooperation

Representatives of Tajikistan's Ministry of Defense visited USCENTCOM headquarters to finalize a security cooperation program for fiscal year 2019, April 18-19.

The event is the final step of a two-part process that consists of an action officer working group and consultative staff talks that intend to further cooperation in the following areas:

             Border security.

             English language training.

             Medical cooperation

             Continued development of Professional Military Education (PME) system.

             Defense professionalization.

             Regional coordination.

             Multi-national exercises.

 

The talks also serve to review the progress of the current year’s joint security cooperation program of activities.

Gen. Maj. Hushvakht Mirovarov, First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of Armed Forces of the Republic of Tajikistan, led the Tajikistan delegation. U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Bradley Swanson, deputy director of U.S. Central command's Strategy, Plans, and Policy directorate headed the event.

"This year’s talks represent another successful step forward in deepening and broadening U.S. – Tajikistan security cooperation to advance mutual security and defense interests,” said U.S. Army Maj. Lemar Farhad, U.S. Central Command’s Tajikistan country director.
