MaT enables security during U.N. aid delivery to Rukban camp

SOUTHWEST ASIA - The Maghaweir al-Thowra, a partner of Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve, provided secure over watch for the United Nations and Syrian Red Crescent humanitarian aid convoy to Rukban near At-Tanf, Syria Feb. 7 – 14.

The U.N. delivered more than 100 truckloads of humanitarian aid which included food, winterization kits, educational and medical supplies, and completed a vaccination program to include administering immunizations to approximately 7,000 children against measles, polio and other diseases.

“The MaT ensured the safety of the deconfliction zone which allowed the U.N. and Syrian Red Crescent through a joint effort to bring vital life-saving medical and humanitarian relief aid to the U.N. estimated 40,000 IDPs at Rukban,” said Maj. Gen. Chad P. Franks, Deputy Commanding General, CJTF-OIR. “Sustained humanitarian access to the Rukban camp is crucial to the well-being of the IDPs.”

CJTF-OIR and its partners stand ready to enable the safe delivery of U.N. humanitarian aid relief to the people living in the Rukban Camp.
