At Resolute Support Headquarters in Kabul, Afghanistan, veterans from Afghan National Defense Forces across the country competed to represent Afghanistan in the Invictus Games Toronto 2017.

Chosen via a transparent, merit-based selection process, the 7 representatives, plus 7 reservists, were announced in a closing a closing ceremony at RSHQ at the end of the day. The Afghan Wounded Warriors who form the Invictus Games Toronto 2017 team will train, travel and compete together, representing the unconquerable spirit of Afghanistan through the rehabilitative power of sport.

General John Nicholson, Resolute Support Commander:
"What we are doing here right now, by doing this, is a demonstration of our respect and appreciation for you and all that you have done. Our respect for your toughness, our respect for your service to the nation and our appreciation for your dedication and what you represent.“

"You have already won by being here today. The power of sport is rehabilitation in itself."

"Invictus is the Latin word for unconquered. I can not think of a better way to describe you, the brave Afghans who continue to fight for your country. You represent a better future, you are the ambassadors of your country.
You are showing the world that you are undefeated, that Afghanistan is undefeated, I can tell you now that the United States is with you, Europe is with you, Australia, all of the countries of the coalition are with you in this struggle."
