Coalition Conducts Ambassadors' Day, Presents United Front to Defeat Daesh

CJTF-OIR

Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve, the military organization to defeat Daesh in Iraq and Syria, conducted Ambassadors’ Day in Baghdad, Sept. 6, 2021.

Ambassadors’ Day is a regular engagement in which CJTF-OIR invites coalition ambassadors and representatives to a day-long forum to provide context and perspective on the Global Coalition’s fight to defeat Daesh.

Ambassadors from Australia, Spain, Great Britain, Sweden, Czech Republic, Greece, Netherlands, Canada, Romania, Italy, Norway, Denmark, Kuwait, Egypt, and the United States attended, as well as representatives from NATO Mission Iraq (NMI), United Nations Assistance Mission Iraq (UNAMI), and the European Union Advisory Mission Iraq (EUAM-I).

Lt. Gen. Paul T. Calvert, commanding general, CJTF-OIR, headed the event.

"Iraqi Security Forces and the Iraqi Counter Terrorism Service have been extremely successful in fighting Daesh," said Calvert.

The day included an update on OIR operations provided by Calvert, as well as briefings from Lt. Gen. Michael Lollesgaard, commanding general, NMI, Brig. Gen. Isaac Peltier, commanding general, Special Operations Joint Task Force – Levant, and Matthew Tueller, U.S. Ambassador to Iraq.

"We (NMI) are still being received well by the Iraqi Government, and we have been focusing on readiness and training concepts," said Lollesgaard.

The session with ambassadors showcased CJTF-OIR’s united effort to provide sustained assistance to partners in defeating Daesh. The Coalition consists of 78 nations and 5 international organizations, and has been in existence since October 17, 2014. The mission of the Coalition has shifted from a mission of direct combat to one of more support for partners through advising and assisting, often at a very high level, and away from combat on the ground.

The Coalition continues to provide intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance as well as logistics, advising and enabling partner forces at the operational and strategic levels. The Coalition also provides air power when requested.

"United international efforts against Daesh will prevent its ability to conduct violent acts, both regionally and globally," said Col. Wayne Marotto, CJTF-OIR Spokesperson. "The Coalition, with our security, military, and government partners, reflects the worldwide unity to see an enduring defeat delivered against Daesh."

The Coalition and its partners remain united in a long-term, whole-of-government and international effort to sustain regional stability and help set conditions for international humanitarian assistance efforts.
