SAN DIEGO (Apr. 8, 2025) – Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) hosts Maj. Gen. (MC) Dr. Hans-Ulrich Holtherm, Commandant of the Bundeswehr Medical Academy, during a visit focused on enhancing collaboration in military medicine, Apr. 8, 2025. The visit highlighted NMCSD’s operational, training, and research capabilities, and included discussions on interoperability, instructor exchanges, joint exercises, and collaborative research efforts. This engagement reflects the shared commitment of both institutions to advancing global medical readiness and strengthening allied partnerships.
The Bundeswehr Medical Academy, based in Munich, Germany, serves as the central hub for medical education, training, and research for the German armed forces, supporting thousands of personnel across the Bundeswehr medical network.
The mission of NMCSD is to provide a superior experience for our patients, staff, and warfighters. NMCSD employs more than 5,000 active-duty military personnel, civilians, and contractors in southern California to deliver exceptional care afloat and ashore.
