U.S. Central Command’s Gen. Frank McKenzie met with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi in Baghdad September 9.
The leaders discussed a range of topics to include international support to disrupt Daesh’s ability to generate revenue, disseminate propaganda and recruit foreign fighters.
The two also discussed the full transition of the security relationship to an advising, assisting, and intelligence-sharing role, and that there will be no U.S. forces with a combat role in Iraq by December 31, 2021.
During the visit, McKenzie also met with U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Matthew H. Tueller, USAID/Iraq Mission Director John Cardenas and Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve senior leadership.
