CAIRO (July 19, 2011) — U.S. Central Command Commander Gen. James Mattis departed Egypt yesterday after visiting and consulting with senior Egyptian military and security officials to gain their views.
Mattis visited with Lt. Gen Anan, Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces and Field Marshal Tantawi, Commander and Chief of the Egyptian Armed Forces to discuss issues of military cooperation within the region.
The leaders discussed their strong military-to-military cooperation efforts as well as a range of other issues.
The visit is the second that Mattis has made to the country since taking command of CENTCOM eleven months ago.
