US Army veteran, family receive special homecoming

By By Cpl. Jordan Belser, Central Command Public Affairs

APOLLO BEACH, Fla., April 28, 2015 - For some people, the phrase "there's no place like home" is just a cliché. For retired Army Sgt. Jorge Sepulveda, it means a whole lot more.

Army Maj. Gen. Michael X. Garrett, U.S. Central Command chief of staff, gave remarks during an April 25 event welcoming home Sepulveda and his family to their renovated, mortgage-free home made possible by Building Homes for Heroes.

Garrett highlighted the importance of service members like Sepulveda and thanked the charity for the work they do for wounded veterans across the country.

Through the charity, a contractor modified and updated the home to fit the needs of Sepulveda as he continues his recovery from injuries he suffered after deployments in support of Operation Enduring Freedom with the 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne) and the 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne).

Although his injuries are a reminder of his military service, Sepulveda said he is excited about what the future holds.

"It's just a real blessing to be here and continue my path toward recovery," said Sepulveda. "It's such a beautiful place that I can raise my daughters."
