MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. – Approximately 30 spouses from U.S. Central Command gathered at the media center here to receive a Family Social Media Awareness Brief April 25. The brief was given to provide information for spouses on how social networking can be used against them and learn ways to protect their personal information.
“The brief isn’t designed to scare anyone from using their computer. It is designed to make them aware of the risks that come with it and learn about how to reduce those risks,” said Steve Selman, one of the presenters from USCENTCOM’s Information Operations Operational Security section. “We want you to become a hard target to our adversaries.”
Spouses in attendance included Charlene Austin, wife of USCENTCOM Commander Gen. Lloyd J. Austin, III; Nancy Horst, wife of Maj. Gen. Karl R. Horst, USCENTCOM chief of staff; and Carla Grippe, wife of USCENTCOM Senior Enlisted Leader Command Sgt. Maj. Frank Grippe.
