NANGAHAR, Afghanistan (March 6, 2008) — In late February, Afghan National Police provided humanitarian assistance to the Barinah Village, Surkh Rud District, Nangahar Province.

The ANP are concerned about continued security in the area, and want the people of Barinah Village to understand that Afghan National Security Forces and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan are there to help and provide much needed humanitarian assistance and security.

The Barinah Village Malik asked the ANP if they would be willing to provide further assistance to the village in the future. The ANP will continue to provide for the villages well being with the understanding that the villagers assist the ANSF in preventing IED’s in the area, and report any insurgent activity that may arise.

The Surkh Rud District has seen very little insurgent activity in the last several months. The ANSF and the IRoA are building trust and rapport with the locals in Surkh Rud District, the Sub-governor, and Tribal Elders.

An estimated 120 adults and 75 children received humanitarian assistance products during the HA mission.
