U.S. Air Forces Central hosting Innovation Oasis competition

By Lt. Col. Marnee Losurdo Ninth Air Force (Air Forces Central)

Ninth Air Force (Air Forces Central) is hosting an Innovation Oasis competition here and at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar, April 19 and submissions are due April 14.

The Innovation Oasis is a “Spark Tank” like event to provide innovative solutions to U.S. Central Command and Air Force challenges.

Ninth Air Force (AFCENT) has aligned its focus for this innovation event with The Vice Chief of Staff of the Air Force’s Innovation Challenge to operationalize Agile Combat Employment, an operating concept that increases survivability by shifting generation of airpower from large, centralized bases to networks of smaller, geographically dispersed forward operating locations.

“This competition is designed to support a culture of innovation, and is a great opportunity for Airmen to pitch their ideas, processes and solutions to leadership, and possibly see that idea implemented across the command and Air Force,” said Maj. Colt Brock, 9th AF (AFCENT) chief innovation officer, and project officer for Innovation Oasis.

The top submitters will make their presentations in person at Shaw Air Force Base and virtually at Al Udeid AB to five judges, which includes the AFCENT commander, two deputy commanders, command chief, and a guest judge from George Mason University faculty. The winner will compete in the U.S. CENTCOM Innovation Oasis II event in Tampa, Florida, May 25.

Innovators should submit their ideas, in accordance with the AFCENT Innovation Oasis fragmentary order, to the chief innovation officer and chief data officer organization accounts at afcent.cino@afcent.af.mil and 9afafcent.chiefdataofficer@afcent.af.mil.
