Coalition Welcomes New Deputy Commanding General, Continues Mission

By Staff Report CJTF-OIR

Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve conducted a change of responsibility for the coalition’s Deputy Commanding General position in Baghdad, Nov. 26, 2021.

U.K. Brigadier Gen. Karl Harris assumed the role of deputy commander of the operation from Brig. Gen. Richard Bell.

During Bell’s tenure with the Task Force, the coalition transitioned from a tactical training mission to a strategic oversight focus that enables partner forces in Iraq and Syria to sustain regional stability through advising and assisting in various domains of military operations.

Now in the final phase of the OIR campaign, Brig. Harris will carry on the Task Force’s advising, assisting and enabling mission.

Brig. Harris’s background is mainly in the operations field.  This includes working with Iraqi Security Forces and Peshmerga, when he was the UK’s Special Defense Advisor to the Kurdistan Regional Government for their Peshmerga Reform Program.

Operation Inherent Resolve’s mission is to conduct partnered operations in designated areas of Iraq and Syria, in order to defeat Daesh and set the conditions for follow-on operations to increase regional security.
