Coalition, SDF efforts to improve local capacity in Ash Shaddadi, Syria

By CJTF-OIR Public Affairs

Fourteen regional vendors met with Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve advisors on Oct. 20-22 during a vendor outreach event near Ash Shaddadi, Syria to register for potential Coalition labor contracts.

According to the service members on the ground, the number of vendors capable of providing critical services such as infrastructure support to Coalition bases essentially doubled from the last outreach in March 2020.

Events such as these increase the likelihood of success for emerging Syrian businesses, providing financial security and stabilization in the region, allowing the economy to recover and further denying Daesh (ISIS) the chance to resurge.

Through the SDF, the Coalition assists vetted Syrian businesses with the administrative tools they need to successfully compete for Coalition service contracts. The detailed vetting ensures proceeds from these contracts are not funding terrorism but instead assist legitimate businesses and provide SDF support.

The level of security against the threat of Daesh resurgence continues to increase as the region develops its economic strength with locally-vetted vendors providing the workforce.
