The 2020 Central and South Asia (CASA) Directors of Military Intelligence (DMI) Conference, hosted by U.S. Central Command (USCENTCOM), brought together Directors of Military Intelligence from Central and South Asia and subject matter experts from America’s intelligence and academic community, Feb. 10–12, 2020.
The theme of this 5th annual conference was “countering hybrid threats.”
According to NATO, hybrid threats may employ military and non-military means to promulgate disinformation, launch cyber-attacks, and create economic pressure using irregular armed groups and, or regular forces. Hybrid methods are used to blur the lines between war and peace, and attempt to sow doubt in the minds of target populations.
Attendees from five CASA nations included representatives from Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan.
“The conference was instrumental in bringing regional leaders together to share concerns and best practices on how to counter hybrid threats that directly affect the USCENTCOM region,” said U.S. Army Maj. Lemar Farhad, U.S. Central Command’s CASA Regional Engagements Officer.
