Coalition Celebrates Iraqi Army Day

By CJTF-OIR Public Affairs

SOUTHWEST ASIA— Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve joins Iraqi leaders and citizens in celebrating the 99th anniversary of the activation of the Iraqi Army. The Iraqi Army was activated on Jan. 6, 1921.

“Our partners in the Iraqi Army have fought valiantly in the campaign to liberate their citizens from the evils of Daesh,” said British Maj. Gen. Gerald Strickland, CJTF-OIR deputy commander for stabilization. “Daesh has lost the capability to launch large scale attacks in Iraq. This speaks volumes to the dedication of the Iraq Security Forces and their desire to bring stability back to their country.”

In Iraq, the overall goal of CJTF-OIR remains on supporting the operations of the Iraqi Security Forces and building their capacity in order to achieve the enduring defeat of Daesh. CJTF-OIR works closely with our Iraqi partners, building their capabilities to defend their border, defeat ISIS remnants in Iraq, and prevent an ISIS resurgence.

“We are grateful for their service and sacrifice to their nation,” added Strickland. “We wish them another 99 years of success in defending the safety and sovereignty of their homeland.”
