SOUTHWEST ASIA – Through self-reporting, Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve is investigating a potential incident involving civilian casualties in the Middle Euphrates River Valley in Syria on Jan. 22, 2019.
CJTF-OIR takes all allegations of civilian casualties seriously and investigates each incident reported through any means, including via self-reporting.
CJTF-OIR strives to be as transparent as possible during the campaign to defeat ISIS and continues to employ thorough and deliberate targeting and strike processes, where possible, to minimize the impact of our operations on civilian populations and infrastructure.
This incident is under investigation, and CJTF-OIR will release additional details once it is complete.
