U.S. Central Command’s Gen. Frank McKenzie met with Kazakhstan’s Defense Minister Murat Bektanov in Nur-Sultan today. The leaders discussed current transnational threats, Kazakhstan’s unique partnership with the Arizona National Guard and opportunities to expand multinational cooperation in Central Asia. “The United States was the first country to recognize Kazakhstan’s independence in 1991,” McKenzie said. “We admire the Kazakhstan’s leadership role in Central Asia today.” McKenzie gave a keynote speech at the Central and South Asia Chiefs of Defense Conference and met privately with other regional counterparts, as well as U.S. Ambassador to Kazakhstan William H. Moser.
