Composition of the Liaison Team:SNR Colonel Gabor Nagy LNO Lieutenant Colonel Endre Miszori Hungary is a member of both the OEF and OIF. Her troop contribution has changed according to the changing requirements feasibility considerations, and caveats. Hungary supported OEF operations with force protection forces - up to company level - medical personnel, airfield management personnel (KAIA), and provided officers, NCOs to fill individual positions. With the phased Transfer of Authority to NATO (ISAF), Hungarian troops came under NATO (ISAF) control. As of 1 October 2006 Hungary took over the lead of the Pol-e Khomri PRT from the Netherlands. The Hungarian-led PRT reached the FOC by 1 April 2007. It runs at the level of around 200 personnel, while another 34 personnel fills individual positions across the ISAF force structure. Hungary's allies provide an invaluable support to the PRT both in manning and logistics. The PRT contributes to the stabilization of the Baghlan Province, provides humanitarian assistance, establishes and maintains favorable security and working conditions for reconstruction and development projects, coordinates such projects, promotes civil-military co-operation in the common reconstruction effort. Major projects are schools, building routes, improve governance, contribution to the train and equip program of ANA and ANP. Long term projects, such as mining and agricultural development programs are under consideration. In the framework of the train and equip program Hungary donated over 20 thousand assault rifles and ammunition to the ANA. In Iraq, Hungary supported the OIF with a transportation battalion for more than one year, and continues to support the Iraqi reconstruction by taking part in the Iraqi officer and NCO basic/advanced training in NATO NTM-I framework and providing 15 persons in the MALT. (Military Advisory Liaison Team) In the framework of the train and equip program Hungary (in a concerted effort with other NATO allies) donated 77 T-72 MBTs to the IA. Last but not least the Hungarian Government cancelled Iraq's 150 million USD national dept to Hungary. Links |
