Helicopter accident near Kabul

Press Release United States Forces-Afghanistan January 16, 2009 Release Number 20091601-01 Helicopter accident near Kabul KABUL, Afghanistan - A U.S. Black Hawk helicopter went down earlier this morning near Kabul.  The helicopter was en route to a medical evacuation mission. The helicopter carried seven people aboard. The crew and passengers are safe and secure, and enemy activity was not involved. The incident is under investigation. -30- United States Forces Afghanistan's mission, in coordination with NATO's International Security Assistance Force, is to conduct operations to defeat terrorist networks and insurgents by developing effective governance and building the Afghan National Security Force.  Effective security throughout the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan facilitates continued regional stability and increases economic development for the people of Afghanistan.
