Coalition Forces maintain pressure in eastern Afghanistan

Press Release United States Forces-Afghanistan February 18, 2009 Release Number 20091802-01 Coalition Forces maintain pressure in eastern Afghanistan KABUL, Afghanistan - Coalition Forces detained one suspected militant during operations in Kapisa province Feb. 18. Coalition Forces conducted operations in Tagab District, Kapisa province, approximately 50 km northeast of Kabul, to disrupt Taliban and foreign facilitation networks operating in the eastern provinces of Afghanistan. When Coalition Forces arrived at the targeted compounds, they called out to have non-combatants peacefully exit the buildings.  The non-combatants exited the buildings without incident. With the cooperation of the non-combatants, no shots were fired. During the operation, one individual was detained, and 11 women and 13 children were protected. -30- United States Forces Afghanistan's mission, in coordination with NATO's International Security Assistance Force, is to conduct operations to defeat terrorist networks and insurgents by developing effective governance and building the Afghan National Security Force.  Effective security throughout the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan facilitates continued regional stability and increases economic development for the people of Afghanistan.
