Coalition aircraft involved in mishap at Bagram

PRESS RELEASE U.S. Forces Afghanistan               January 30, 2009 Release Number 20093001-01 Coalition aircraft involved in mishap at Bagram KABUL, Afghanistan - A Coalition C-17 cargo aircraft was involved in a mishap Jan. 30, causing Bagram Airfield to close until further notice. Initial reports indicate that the aircraft landed with its gear not fully extended causing a small fire. No injuries or deaths have been reported. A board of officers will be appointed to investigate the incident. -30- United States Forces Afghanistan's mission, in coordination with NATO's International Security Assistance Force, is to conduct operations to defeat terrorist networks and insurgents by developing effective governance and building the Afghan National Security Force.  Effective security throughout the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan facilitates continued regional stability and increases economic development for the people of Afghanistan.
