Afghan man killed at KMTC range

Press Release United States Forces-Afghanistan January 3, 2009 Release Number 20090301-02 Afghan man killed at KMTC range KABUL, Afghanistan - An Afghan man was injured and later died of wounds sustained at the Kabul Military Training Center firing range Jan. 2. While the range was active, local nationals wandered into the firing area. Afghan National Army soldiers reacted to this by closing the range and leading the group away from the range area. After the range was closed, an Afghan citizen came forward and said his son was shot by someone on the range. The incident is under investigation. "We offer our sincerest condolences to the man's family for this unfortunate accident," said Col. Jerry O'Hara, U.S. Forces Afghanistan spokesperson. "We are reviewing our range procedures and responsibilities to ensure never happens again." -30- United States Forces Afghanistan's mission, in coordination with NATO's International Security Assistance Force, is to conduct operations to defeat terrorist networks and insurgents by developing effective governance and building the Afghan National Security Force.  Effective security throughout the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan facilitates continued regional stability and increases economic development for the people of Afghanistan.
