Afghan forces discover, destroy IED cache in Oruzgan

Press Release United States Forces-Afghanistan March 14, 2009 Release Number: 20091403-02 Afghan forces discover, destroy IED cache in Oruzgan KABUL, Afghanistan – Afghan National Police, assisted by Coalition Forces, destroyed an improvised explosive device cache in Tarin Kowt District, Oruzgan (Uruzgan) Province, March 14. In a continuous effort to deny militants freedom of movement and to seek out weapons caches, the ANP-led force conducted a combat reconnaissance patrol in an area of known militant presence. The joint patrol found and safely destroyed five large containers of homemade explosives as well as more than 10 107 mm rockets near the village of Khorma. The combined force was on a two-day patrol when they found the cache in a suspicious compound while they were stopped to speak with the villagers about security in the area.  The combined forces destroyed the cache in place. Later in the day, one of the ANP vehicles struck an IED.  The police officers inside the vehicle sustained only minor injuries and were able to continue on with their mission of rooting our terrorists and protecting the public.
