Support to the Global War on TerrorOn 16 Aug 2006, in London, the ministers of, Portugal, Germany, Slovenia, France (the next future European Union Presidency), Finland (acting Presidency) and United Kingdom signed a conjunct declaration about the Global War on Terror.
Portugal starts to support the Global War on Terror, with military forces, in 2002. Here is a brief summary of that participation:
OEF / ISAF
o One C-130 Air Force detachment in Kabul (39 personnel), in support of ISAF/OEF in Kabul, from September 2008 to December 2008.
o One QRF company (157 personal), in support of ISAF in Kabul, from August 2005 to August 2008.
o One Command Group (23 personnel) for Kabul International airport, in support of ISAF/OEF, from August 2005 to December 2005.
o Air traffic controllers (3 personnel), Airfield Firefighters (5 personnel) and one C-130 Air Force detachment in Kabul airport, in support of ISAF/OEF in Kabul, from May 2004 to November 2004.
o One C-130 Air Force detachment in Karachi, in support of ISAF/OEF, from April 2002 to July 2002.
o One medical detachment in support of ISAF-Operation FINGAL, from February 2002 to April 2002.
o One military police unit (120 personnel) to Multi-National Division- Southeast , from November 03 to February 05.
o Staff officers assigned to NTM-I Headquarters in Baghdad, from June 05 to April 09.

o 1 Frigate (199 PAX) Leading the Standing NATO Response Force Maritime Group 1 (SNMG1) in Counter Piracy Operations.
