By U.S. Embassy, Islamabad, Pakistan

ISLAMABAD (Sept. 2, 2010) — U.S. Navy Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is in Pakistan today to consult with Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff.

Earlier today, Gen. Kayani escorted Adm. Mullen on a visit to see first-hand the flood-stricken areas of Pakistan.  The admiral emphasized U.S. commitment to supporting Pakistan during the current flood crisis and long into the future as a partner and friend.

Adm. Mullen's visit to Pakistan continues a tradition of regular bilateral consultations between the U.S. and Pakistan.  He last visited Pakistan on July 24, 2010.

This is his 20th visit to Pakistan since becoming the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in October 2007.
