Kuwait 50/20 Celebration
Third Army will participate in Kuwait’s 50/20 celebration in order to strengthen the strategic relationship between the U.S. and Kuwait and acknowledge the historical importance of Operation DESERT STORM. Third Army has led the military presence in Kuwait for the past 20 years.
The 50/20 celebration honors the veterans of Operation Desert Storm and recognizes the long standing and successful partnership between Kuwait and the United States. U.S. Central Command and its assigned components are in Kuwait working to maintain regional security.

Kuwait kicks off month of 50/20 festivities at Qaruh Island
CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait – A platoon of Kuwaiti Marines scanned their sectors of fire as they moved through the thick green and yellow smoke and inched closer to the center of the small desert island. One of the Marines charged forward with the national colors of Kuwait proudly furled. Two of his brothers in arms, to his left and right stayed close, providing security until the moment they reached the point where they planted the Kuwaiti flag, symbolizing the liberation of this small but vital piece of land.

Kuwait Celebrates Liberation
U.S. Central Command and its components help commemorate Kuwait’s 50/20 celebration where the U.S. was asked to participate in the parade by the Government of Kuwait, Third Army/U.S. Army Central is leading the effort with support from the Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force service components. The Army is supporting with tactical vehicles, helicopters, Soldiers and Marines to march in the parade. A contingent from the distinguished Old Guard carries the colors of the units who executed Operation Desert Storm. These units include USCENTCOM, Third Army, 7 Corps, 1st Infantry Division, 1st Cavalry, 1st Armored Division, 3rd Armored Division, 18th Airborne Corps, 82nd Airborne Division, 101st Airborne Division and the 24th Infantry Division.
