U.S. Army Corps of Engineers hosts Industry Day in Kabul
KABUL, Afghanistan - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Afghanistan Engineer District hosted an Industry Day event yesterday at the Inter-Continental Hotel in Kabul to provide vital information to construction companies seeking to do business with the Corps of Engineers in Afghanistan.
Representatives from about 200 construction companies attended the event and received information about AED's construction programs, proposal preparation, and quality assurance management etc.
In fiscal year 2009, AED will be executing about $4 billion in construction projects in Afghanistan. Currently more than 70 percent of AED's construction contracts are awarded to Afghan firms, and nearly 90 percent of all workers on AED projects are Afghan. According to Tim Robbins, AED contracting specialist, the Industry Day gave the participants the necessary information to successfully navigate the solicitation process and submit quality proposals. They also gained an understanding of the Corps' quality management requirements during construction.
