DOHA, Qatar (April 30, 2009) – The director of exercises and training at United States Central Command in Tampa, Fla. visited the National Defense and Crisis Management Center here today. Maj. Gen. R. Benjamin “Boats” Bartlett made the trip to meet with participants in exercise Eagle Resolve 2009. Eagle Resolve is an annual, multi-national exercise designed to enhance regional cooperative defense efforts of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and the United States. “Eagle Resolve is one of our most important exercises,” Bartlett said. “It allows us the chance to work with the GCC nations and learn how they operate. The benefit we gain is in the ability to react properly in case something were to actually happen.” This year’s Eagle Resolve, which runs from late-April to early-May, is focusing on promoting a common understanding of defense concepts and procedures, as well as exercising consequence management efforts. “Most countries come here not knowing how an exercise like this will go,” Bartlett said. “I think all participants realize in the end they find out that they get quite a bit out of it, including us at U.S. Central Command.”
