NEAR ALEXANDRIA, Egypt (Oct. 17, 2009) — American, Egyptian, and Kuwaiti troops trained together in a Combined Arms Live Fire Exercise in one of many training exercises conducted at Exercise Bright Star 2009.  This CALFEX increases regional involvement in improving security and defense capabilities.

Realistic battle scenarios are used to allow the different forces to become familiar with each other’s equipment and tactics and to enhance the capabilities of the units involved.  The exercise was just one of several multinational events during Bright Star 2009.“I think all of the nations distinguished themselves in their respective zones, their schemes of Maneuver.” said U. S. Marine Corps Lt. Col. Robert C. Fulford, commanding officer, Battalion Landing Team, 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit.

In 1981, Bright Star started with two nations, Egypt and the United States.  Now, 28 years later, service members from France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Jordan, Kuwait, Pakistan, Turkey and the United Kingdom train with Americans and Egyptians to build relationships and develop, refine and improve interoperability in this region. Third Army spearheaded this year’s exercise.
