| USCENTCOM to host Chiefs of Defense Conference |
| By CENTCOM Public AffairsMacDill Air Force Base -- The U.S. Central Command will host the second annual Central and Southern Asia Chiefs of Defense conference March 30 in Washington, D.C. The three-day conference is a joint service and multinational event held annually to provide the senior defense officials with direct access to the commander of USCENTCOM and to increase high-level dialogue between regional Chiefs of Defense from countries such as Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. "Senior level U.S. and coalition military leaders are consistently working to foster military-to-military cooperation and to enhance security and stability globally," said Maj. Gen. Robert R. Allardice, director, USCENTCOM J5/Plans. "Participation in conferences like the CASA CHOD conference builds necessary relationships with our regional partners and greatly enhances our overall understanding of how to work together during times of crisis or conflict. By discussing lessons learned from current and on-going activities involving counter-insurgency operations, we strengthen that security and stability." During the conference, attendees will hear from expert regional speakers and participate in round table discussions to examine the current challenges to maintaining security and stability in the CASA region. Some specific issues on the agenda included methods to enhance interoperability and military modernization, combating transnational terrorism, and regional cooperative measures to enhance security. "One of the missions of USCENTCOM is to work with national and international partners, promoting the development and cooperation among nations," said Maj. Gen. Allardice. "Conferences such as this, help USCENTCOM accomplish that mission while promoting regional security and stability." |
