ISLAMABAD (Sept. 28, 2010) — Pakistan's Joint Air Coordination Cell (JACC) continues to expedite flood relief airlift operations, providing an efficient process to distribute flood relief supplies throughout the country.

The JACC was established Aug. 28 by Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Nadeem Ahmed, Pakistan's National Disaster Management Authority chairman, to facilitate effective coordination, communication and transportation of international flood relief supplies to regions most in need. Participants in the JACC include representatives from the NDMA, the Pakistan Army and Air Force, UN Logistics Cluster, World Food Program, and the United States.

"We are sharing information with these different entities to leverage our strengths and mitigate our weaknesses to increase humanitarian assistance," said U.S. Air Force Col. Dean Bridger, a U.S. military air mobility liaison to the JACC. "This is definitely a benchmark for future contingencies wherever they may occur as it aids in ensuring the efficient utilization of limited resources."

Through the JACC, military and civilian organizations have streamlined and expedited the transportation of relief supplies and improved communication between governmental and non-governmental aid providers.

To date, U.S. aircraft have transported more than 12.5 million pounds (5.7 million kilograms) of relief supplies and provided transport to more than 20,000 people, delivering much-needed aid to Pakistanis who urgently require emergency assistance.
